At Tribeca Smiles in New York, NY, Dr. Frederick Solomon likes to say that he doesn’t just fix teeth — he treats patients with not only cosmetic dentistry but comprehensive general dentistry. His mission is to look at patients as holistic individuals in order to treat them properly. When your teeth get worn down or damaged, crowns are an excellent option to regain the original stability and strength you had in the affected tooth. Crowns also serve as a protection against more distress and degradation. Just as a football helmet protects your head from damage, so does a crown protect your compromised tooth. Crowns are made to aesthetically match your existing teeth in color, shape, and size so they will blend into the surrounding teeth. Translucency and luster of your teeth are also matched so, as far as anyone else knows, they are your original teeth. Crowns are stain resistant and don’t slide or shift like dentures since they are cemented into place — giving you the peace of mind that they will stay put.
CEREC Dental Crowns
We also use CEREC digital dentistry that allows us to complete a natural-looking crown that is crafted and placed in one single appointment, typically in about an hour. The CEREC technology allows us to craft a customized dental crown using a specialized computer and our in-house laboratory. We will take digital impressions of your teeth using a state-of-the-art scanning system instead of conventional molds. Your dental crown will be created from a ceramic cube using a 3D printer, and the result is a porcelain crown that looks natural within your smile.
"I had a root canal today and have been dreading what would occur during and after the procedure. Dr Solomon and his team walked me through the steps and made feel comfortable throughout.A few jokes and magic tricks relaxed me even more. If I could give 5 plus stars I would :)"- K.R. / Google / Mar 08, 2019
"I had a pretty unusual situation - cracked veneer and my dentist unavailable due to the family emergency. Googled locations near me and called Dr. Solomon. Not only that he "squeezed" me in the same day, but he also offered me an alternative that was better than what I was asking for. Love the cool office and friendly staff as a bonus!Definitely recommended!"- Y.K. / Google / Feb 26, 2019

"I used to dread visiting the dentist until I started going to Tribeca Smiles. The staff is extremely kind, helpful, and welcoming. I have been to several dentists and through countless dental procedures after chipping my front tooth at a young age, which caused years of repercussions. Root canal, implant, veneers… you name it, I’ve been through it. Dr Solomon was patient, always explaining my options and outcomes to me, and his thoroughness has been extremely reassuring. The dentist isn’t a scary place anymore. I finally have a smile I am happy with, and I owe it all to Dr. Solomon. I give the highest praise to every single person who works in this office. There is no competition."- N.P. / Google / Jan 29, 2019
Dental crowns may be needed or wanted in a variety of situations. They can be used to protect a weakened tooth from breaking more, or they can even hold parts of a tooth together that have already cracked. Crowns can be used to fix a tooth that is already broken or extremely worn down. They can serve as a covering and support for a tooth that already has large fillings, but is still decaying. Crowns can be used to hold dental bridges in place, or cover misshapen or very discolored teeth. Crowns can cover implants or simply be utilized for cosmetic reasons. Ceramic and porcelain crowns typically give you the benefit of a better match in color than other types of crowns, and work better for people with metal allergies, which can be an issue with crowns containing metal.
What To Expect
Dental crowns are needed when the filling is too big for the tooth to hold, you’re coming off a root canal, or a combination of the two. Regardless, the first step involves the utilization of a local anesthetic to make sure your tooth and surrounding tissue are both numb. If you have just had a root canal procedure, anesthetic will still be used. Impressions will be taken of your tooth so that our lab can create your crown. With our crowns, the precise shade of your surrounding teeth will be matched as well. From there, the tooth will be prepared, final impressions will be made, and a temporary crown will be provided until the porcelain or ceramic crown can be cemented into place.
Congratulations on your new crown! We know that it’s not the most pleasant process, but after it’s situated, it will withstand the day-to-day pressures a tooth must deal with like biting, chewing and grinding. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s indestructible, but it should give you years of reliable service. Once the bite has been aligned properly and the excess cement has been cleaned, you will receive very specific post-procedure instructions for how to best care for your new crown. It is vital to follow these instructions carefully, especially regarding what to eat and not eat. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, let us know so we can address it.
